Most Bronx residents who have been near Pelham Parkway North and Boston Road in Allerton know how busy the area can get.
In September, the Department of Transportation began major construction in the area near White Plains Road. News 12 is keeping you Road Ready with an update on what's coming: a new bike lane, a relocated bus stop, a crosswalk, and more.
White Plains Road is considered a priority for the DOT after 217 people were injured in this corridor from 2019-2023, according to Vision Zero data.
The DOT told News 12 in a statement:
"Based on the needs of the community, we are happy to share that we will be installing a new signal and crosswalk to the intersection of Boston Road and Pelham Parkway North to give pedestrians an additional safe crossing along this corridor. Similarly, curb extensions like the one planned at the intersection of Boston Road and Thwaites Place improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers by simplifying traffic patterns and increasing visibility."
