Catholics throughout the Bronx are marking the beginning of Lent this Ash Wednesday. Some Bronx residents headed to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Belmont to receive ashes that have been blessed by a priest. The ashes are placed on a parishioner?s forehead in the shape of a cross. The day also means that Easter is just 40 days away. Fasting during Lent is a way for Christians to identify with Jesus in his suffering.
