An important training session was held Saturday in Highbridge that just might save a life.
The Highbridge Self-Defense Academy workshop held at the Resurrection Lutheran Church brought together FDNY emergency medical services workers and local clergy.
They taught residents about what EMS workers do in the field to build better relationships between the FDNY and the community.
They also demonstrated self-defense methods as well as CPR techniques to use in emergencies and had adults and kids practice on dummies.
Bronx woman Harvettia Smith, who brought her five children, tells News 12 it's good to know that if anything happens they will be able to help each other out.
Organizers say they will not only plan more personal safety workshops, but will also create community engagement initiatives with film and music programs.
