Some local schools are now trying to teach the community a lesson about getting vaccinated against COVID-19.
Several Bronx charter schools wrote an open letter to the community ahead of the return to class in September. The message focuses on the delta variant and how students can't afford to lose any more time in the classroom.
The schools urge anyone who is unvaccinated to protect themselves and others by getting the shot.
"We know that we can't have another school year where kids are losing instructional time, where we are focusing all our energy, or much of our energy on keeping everyone safe," says David Noah, founding principal of Comp Sci High.
"We want to make sure they have that information so they can move forward with the right choice which is getting vaccinated," says Janelle Bradshaw, chief executive director of Public Prep Network.
Both Public Prep and Comp Sci High hosted bilingual vaccine forums with doctors in March to address vaccine misinformation.
