Shuttered Hunt's Point Library could reopen in the coming weeks

The library was set to reopen in 2022. The effects of the pandemic, mixed with construction delays and major city budget cuts in 2023, forced the space to remain closed.

The Hunt's Point Public Library is set to reopen in the coming weeks, according to sources.
In 2020, the library was one of five city libraries closed for renovations.
The Carnegie Renovation Program aimed to revitalize some of the oldest libraries across the city. In the Bronx, The Melrose Library and Hunt's Point Library were chosen.
"It's just so exciting to see the upgrades, to see the redevelopment of the South Bronx," said Councilmember Rafael Salamanca Jr.
The library was set to reopen in 2022. The effects of the pandemic, mixed with construction delays and major city budget cuts in 2023, forced the space to remain closed.
Sources told News 12 the library is officially reopening in the coming weeks.
"We were worried when Mayor Adams came out with the cuts and we were super excited to hear that the library was going to be fixed and reinstated," said one community member.
Upgrades to the space include dedicated spaces for programming, reading areas for residents of all ages, indoor and outdoor accessibility upgrades, technological improvements and more.
Councilmember Salamanca said his team is putting pressure on the city to deliver.
