Twin Rinks in Stamford hosted a "Skate for Ukraine" fundraiser Sunday, asking attendees to bring dontaions of clothes for young children and medications to benefit children of Ukraine.
The coach and organizer of the event, Victor Baryshevtsev, tells News 12 he recently evacuated his family out of Kyiv and they are now doing what they can to give back and support people of their home country.
"We are raising some money, kids clothes…because they are struggling over there,” he said. “Some medicine, and after this event, we pack the boxes and send them to Ukraine."
The event featured skaters of all levels from the rink's performance program.
News 12's Shosh Bedrosian spoke with some of the skaters who have Ukrainian backgrounds.
