The NYC Small Business Services is training small business owners in one part of the Bronx on how to avoid violations before they're fined.
The Small Business First initiative kicked off in Westchester Square Wednesday.
SBS employees say they used analytical tools to prioritize the stores that needed the most help.
They then brought professionals to those businesses to sit with store owners and advise them on changes to avoid fines for violations and maximize profits.
The initiative has also started a hotline for business owners to call with questions before and after city audits.
Business owners say it's often hard to abide by every regulation because there are many.
The program is expected to expand throughout the summer and eventually reach all five boroughs.
