Some town pools may open early ahead of extreme heat next week

Huntington is among the towns planning to get pools up and running before temperatures heat up Sunday.

Many town pools on Long Island aren't scheduled to open until the end of the school year late next week.
However, with an extreme heat watch expected to begin Sunday, some towns are changing their plans.
Huntington pools will be open, as will those in the Town of North Hempstead.
Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico tells News 12 they are trying to get pools open by Tuesday. The issue is making sure they have enough lifeguards, as many of them are college and high school students.
Some towns, however, such as Islip, Oyster Bay and Smithtown, will not be opening their pools this weekend.
Suffolk County tells us that all three county beaches will be open - and in Nassau, Jones Beach and Robert Moses are options as well.
