Some homeowners in Westchester County facing foreclosure are receiving the help they need through the federal government’s COVID Mortgage Relief Program.
Adriana Murphy, of Sleepy Hollow, is one of hundreds in Westchester County who applied for help. The single mother says without assistance, she nearly lost everything.
“If I didn’t get approved, we would be looking at selling our home and move probably out of state,” she told News 12.
Westchester County was allotted $2 million to help struggling residents through December.
Julie Stern, of Community Housing Innovations in White Plains, says there’s a great need for mortgage help during the pandemic.
“Westchester County has made available $600,000 for our agency to help people facing foreclosure, and it’s for direct payments to their bank or servicer of their loan,” says Stern.
Westchester County has until Thursday to disperse all of the funds, but anyone facing foreclosures or is struggling to pay their mortgage due to coronavirus hardships is encouraged to seek help from organizations such as the Community Housing Innovations.
