Soundview ferry service from the Bronx to Manhattan officially began Wednesday morning.
Its route runs from Clason Point Park to East 90th Street, East 34th Street to Pier 11/Wall Street. The trip takes less than an hour and costs as much as a subway ride, $2.75.
The day's first trip departed at 6:30 a.m. and will continue to do so each morning, officials say.
Officials say ferry service will better connect Bronx residents to other neighborhoods and more job opportunities while reducing travel times.
Passengers can ride inside the ferry or take advantage of open-air seating above. And it has a concession bar stocked with snacks and drinks.
Mayor Bill de Blasio says the Soundview ferry is the first serving the Bronx since World War II.
