Source: Child whose throat was slashed in April dies at school
A source tells News 12 The Bronx that a boy whose throat was slashed in April by his mother collapsed and died at school Friday.
Authorities had identified Shanice Martin, 24, as the mother who turned herself in to police after taking a boxcutter to the throats of her 6-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter. The two survived the slashings and a judge granted an order of protection to keep Martin away from her children.
The source says the boy collapsed while waiting for his lunch at P.S. 5. News 12 is told CPR wasn't enough to save his life.
He was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals Lincoln, where he was pronounced dead. The medical examiner has to determine an official cause of death.
