Police sources say an NYPD cadet shot and killed the suspect who fired on two NYPD sergeants in the Bronx Friday, killing one of them.
News 12 is told that the cadet was accompanying the sergeants for training when the shootout happened. They say his instincts kicked in and he opened fire on the suspect, identified as Manuel Rosales.
As News 12 has reported, 18-year NYPD veteran Sgt. Paul Tuozzolo was shot in the head and killed after stopping Rosales' car in connection with a home invasion investigation. Sgt. Emmanuel Kwo was shot in the leg and was hospitalized in stable condition.
According to police, Rosales broke into his estranged wife's home armed with a gun. Inside were his 29-year-old wife, their 3-year-old son, another 13-year-old child and a 50-year-old woman. The woman called 911.
Rosales fled in a red Jeep, police say, which they found nearby, leading to the shootout.
The cadet has not been identified.
