9h agoThere is a massive shortage of health care workers amid the pandemic. The Southern Westchester BOCES is trying to help fill those positions through its clinical medical assistant program.
The positions pay between $15 and $25 an hour, but wages are currently up. Many employers are even offering sign on bonuses.
"This is the first time in the history that I've ever known that we have 20 times more jobs to fill than the number of students I can feed into those jobs," says Betsy Evans, coordinator of Adult and Continuing Education.
The clinical medical assistant program takes four months to complete.
Graduates are then encouraged to seek a national certification, which many employers require.
