A Stamford man was honored in Bridgeport Saturday for his decades of service.
Daniel Cummings is a volunteer firefighter and paramedic.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal praised Cummings, who is now a state's attorney, for his frontline service at the start of the pandemic.
Cummings said he just tries to pay it forward.
"Right in college as a volunteer firefighter, I learned from my neighbors, basically, how important it is to serve your community, do what you can to try and make it a better place," Cummings said.
"Daniel Cummings has contributed year after year, first as an EMT and then as a prosecutor, to make people safer and improve their quality of life," Blumenthal said.
Cummings gives specialized legal training to first responders.
