Lawmakers up in Albany have extended the deadline for when the state budget is due, but if extended again, state workers may be forced to go without pay in order to reach an agreement.
The new deadline for the state budget is April 10, after terms within the budget could not be agreed upon by the initial April 1 deadline.
Assemblyman Kenny Burgos says that negotiations in Albany have stalled, but that there are multiple proposals on the table including funding the MTA’s budget gap, taxes on rideshare vehicles, and the idea of taxing packages.
Burgos also says a big hurdle is reaching an agreement on what the future of bail reform entails, which is a hot topic for a second consecutive year.
