Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop has won the race for a third term.

Fulop faced independent Lewis Spears - a political newcomer and coordinator for the Hudson County Youth Services Commission.

RESULTS: News 12 New Jersey Election Day results

Fulop posted on Twitter, “Thank u #JerseyCity. There’s no better city + I’m forever grateful for the trust you have placed in me.”

Fulop is the first third-term mayor in Jersey City since the 1940s.
