The Stevenson Family Health Center will soon have a renovated mental health suite, lobby and common areas and a new immediate care suite, thanks to $250,000 in state funding.
The Soundview center currently has 30 examination rooms and seven dental chairs. The facility services 40,000 patients each year. With the renovations, it hopes to service 100,000.
Assemblyman Luis Sepulveda says he hopes to continue securing money from the state to expand the center's mental health care capabilities in the future.
The health center had to close its doors in the summer of 2012 when ex-state Sen. Pedro Espada Jr. was found guilty of embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars from the center.
