Many are still cleaning up after Wednesday night's storm, including families in Plainfield.
Neighbors woke up to downed trees and wires on Field Avenue.
One neighbor says a wire caught a tree on fire and acted like an arc welder, bouncing around and burning holes into the street. The sparks were so strong he stayed at a neighbor's house to be safe since it happened right in front of his home.
"We're very lucky it fell into the street and not into our house, and it didn't bring the wires into our house to catch our house on fire,” says David Blechinger. “It was pretty nerve-wracking to see everyone standing around and the fire going and there’s nothing they could do about it because the power’s so intense. They can't go near it because it's like 'come on do something' and they're like 'I can't, I'll get electrocuted.'"
Blechinger says he was able to get power back around 2 a.m.
A number of families say they have no power. PSEG reports crews may not get to some areas until the afternoon hours.
