News 12 Storm Watch Team Meteorologist Darryl Green says we need to remain vigilant for dangerous flooding through the night. Parts of the city have already observed over 7 inches of rain.
This weather pattern, known as a "Norlun Trough" is locking rain over New York City, forcing it to stay local for a long time. Two areas of fair weather surround this storm which is preventing it from moving away from the area. Until either of these fair-weather regions move or weaken, the rain stays. The forecast calls for an additional 2-3 inches of rain between tonight and 6 a.m. Saturday.

Tonight: Periods of heavy rain with a lighter steadier rain in-between downpours create a hazardous environment through the evening. The rain is expected to last into Saturday morning before improving, slowly, through the midday.
Saturday: Morning clouds and showers, partial clearing by the afternoon.
Sunday: Sunny. Highs from the low- to mid-70s.
Monday: Mostly sunny. Highs from the mid- to upper-70s.
Tuesday: Mostly sunny. Highs from the mid- to upper-70s.
