A Bronx-based agricultural technology training program is working to improve local food systems through workforce development and education.
'The Urban Wild' kicked off its summer programs in the borough, where students built a greenhouse system, operated drones for agricultural surveying and integrated the technology system that they built.
The program is designed to empower students that want to become urban farmers or create tech to help urban farming.
Farming in the city brings a major level of difficulty, so students had to adapt to limited soil and the challenges of growing plants indoors.
The students in the program come from all over the Bronx with different organizations like CUNY Tech Prep, Bronx Innovation Factory and Summer Youth Employment.
The CEO of The Urban Wild says that the aim of these courses is to help students work toward improving locally grown and sourced food in the Bronx and across the country.
