Some student researchers and scientists are tracking coyotes in places such as Wave Hill in Riverdale.
The coyote tracking is part of Wave Hill's woodland ecology research mentorship program, which involves the students working with a scientist to study the coyotes' behavior. They are also trying to figure out why coyotes are being spotted in more urban areas.
Five motion-activated cameras were strategically placed around Wave Hill to capture the coyotes' movement and how they mark their territory.
Educators say the 14-month program adds to what the aspiring researchers are already learning by giving them real hands-on experience in the field.
