Students from New Bronx Leadership Academy fight for more school funding
Bronx students and their parents are fighting for more money for school construction projects. While officials say there is a court order demanding the state increase spending on New York City?s public schools by more than $5.5 billion, the Governor?s proposed budget calls for an increase in education spending of just over $630 million. The New York Times is reporting that members of the state senate and state assembly are preparing to present bills Monday that would increase that amount of spending. Officials say four school construction projects have been canceled as a result of the lack in state funding. The New Bronx Leadership Academy, the Mott Haven Campus, the former P.S. 99 and an extension onto James Monroe High School have all been affected.
