Businesses owned by women are on the rise in New York City, up 43 percent citywide.
The Department of Small Business Services says almost 40 percent of all businesses in the Bronx are owned by women.
The study still says that women entrepreneurs have a long way to go. It says there's a large gender gap because male-owned businesses have more employees and make more money.
"In many ways, this is still a man's world, so you really have to fight," said one female business owner.
That fight requires business education and mentorship, something the study says is lacking for women.
