The 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline celebrated its one-year anniversary on Thursday, announcing that it is now providing chat and text services in Spanish.
Secretary Xavier Beccera says 988 is becoming the 911 of mental health and substance abuse crises. The hotline acts as a gateway to connect individuals to local crisis centers and other services in times of need.
One of those centers, the Life Is Precious Program in the Bronx, says that the program's connection with the hotline has helped serve over 600 Latinos in New York City.
This suicide and crisis lifeline provides 24/7 free and confidential support to anyone who dials 988.
