The Department of Education is making COVID-19 shots available at dozens of Summer Rising sites, with a Bronx site kicking it off on Tuesday.
At Lehman High School, students participate in the Summer Rising program each day. On Tuesday, the COVID-19 vaccine was available.
This comes as the city is working to increase the vaccination rate among all New Yorkers 12 years old and up who are eligible for the COVID shot.
The DOE is making the vaccine available at 25 summer rising sites across the city through Aug. 13.
The sites will be open from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and the site location in each borough will rotate each week.
Any New Yorker over the age of 12 can come as long as they bring an ID to verify their age. Minors must have verbal consent from a parent. Children who are under 15 must be accompanied by an adult.
This comes as there's a great push to get more shots in the arms of New Yorkers. On Monday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced he will allocate $15 million to help vaccinate disproportionately affected communities.
Mayor Bill de Blasio is also pushing forward saying all city workers will be mandated to either get the vaccine or undergo weekly testing.
