WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
The News 12 Storm Watch Team is tracking a nor'easter for Sunday and Monday. As of Thursday night, there are still some details that need to be ironed out, including the exact track that it will take. Depending on the exact track, that will affect which neighborhoods will be affected the most intensely.
However, the borough can anticipate strong to damaging winds, with gusts between 30 to 45 mph or stronger, the potential for repeat rounds of heavy rain, coastal flooding, and beach erosion.
Neighborhoods along the water can expect to be hit the hardest. Have a plan for you and your family for how to stay safe during this storm. The worst of this will be Sunday night into Monday morning. This will be a long event of rain, wind, and waves. Repeat days of intense wind could threaten trees and powerlines. Portions of the city are under a high wind watch from the National Weather Service.
Additionally, the borough is dealing with higher than usual tides due to where the moon is in relationship to the planet. This will act to further exacerbate the issue of coastal flooding. For Brooklyn (Coney Island) high tide times will be around 12:40 a.m. and 12:20 p.m. on Sunday and 1:20 a.m. and 1:40 p.m. on Monday.
The rest of the work and school week will be unaffected. Conditions remain cool, quiet, and dry. Saturday by the second half of the day, there could be some scattered showers, and the winds will pick up. Whipping winds will intensify into Sunday and Monday. The rest of the week is a good opportunity to move in any Halloween or fall decorations that could be blown around. It will be getting very chilly Thursday night with lows in the mid-40s, so anticipate wanting the heat overnight.
