Power has been restored at a Fordham apartment building after residents say building management went silent during a two-day outage that left common areas in complete darkness.

Tenants at 2065 Morris Ave. told News 12 their apartment lights remained on — but hallways, stairwells and elevators lost power, forcing residents to navigate the building using cellphone flashlights.

“It’s scary, it’s pitch black — we can’t see.” Said one neighbor.

Sources tell News 12 the outage happened after building management, Highbridge Community Development corp., failed to pay a Con Edison bill, cutting electricity to common areas.

Con Edison tells News 12 it works with customers to manage energy bills and says cutting service is a last resort.

"It is used when a customer has repeatedly failed to pay their energy bills over a prolonged period and has not enrolled in a flexible payment plan to meet their obligation," a spokesperson for the energy provider said.

A source confirmed management made a payment Friday evening and service was restored.

The building is currently facing a partial vacate order from the Department of Buildings, citing 77 open violations including a mice infestation, broken carbon monoxide detectors and mold.

Highbridge Community Development Corp could not be reached for comment.
