With towels, washcloths and shower shoes in hand, some tenants at 60 196th St. in Fordham wait to use a vacant apartment-turned-temporary communal bathroom.

"Sometimes you have to wait 30 minutes to an hour depending on who's in there," says a tenant named Izzy.

As first reported by the New York Post, certain units in the building have had their bathrooms and kitchens gutted for renovations, leaving tenants without running water. It caused many to file a complaint with the Department of Buildings on Oct. 10.

One tenant says their kitchen was gutted last Tuesday and they have gone without water since. That's because the DOB slapped a stop-work order on renovations last Friday and inspected apartments on Wednesday, according to residents.

Tenant Jessica Rodriguez says she still has water because she would not allow workers into her apartment. She says the landlord offered to put her up in a hotel and credit her account for a month's rent, but she felt that it would not be enough.

News 12 reached out to the DOB, Housing Preservation and Development and the building's landlord for comment but did not immediately hear back from any of them.
