It's been nearly two months that tenants in a Melrose housing condominium say they have been without hot water or gas.

Tenants say it's not only an inconvenience, but it is also unsafe. They also say that they've been paying their maintenance bills on time each month.

Retired NYPD Officer Lionel Lucas is among those who say they've been forced to take cold showers and use hot plates to cook food. He says he has to heat up water to bathe his young granddaughter who lives with him.

Lionel told News 12 that the management company, Rhamco, told residents that a gas leak forced Con Edison to turn off the gas back in early June.

However, Lionel says Con Edison told him that it doesn't have knowledge of a gas leak. Since then, he hasn't been able to get any straight answers from Rhamco.

Other residents also told News 12 that they're afraid they're going to get hurt. News 12 reached out to Rhamco for its side of the story and is awaiting a response.

News 12 also spoke to another person off camera who says her mom was forced to move out of her home here to a place upstate because of this situation.
