'The Lit. Bar' opens as the borough's only indie bookstore
A Bronx woman opened a bookstore in the Bronx, making it the only independent bookstore in the borough.
It isn't a typical bookstore. The Lit. Bar
in the South Bronx has books from different millennial-driven genres and a wine bar.
Founder and Bronx native Noelle Santos says she was inspired to create the store when the Baychester Barnes & Noble closed three years ago.
Santos' goal is to focus on marginalized voices through books that reflect Bronx diversity and culture.
"I wanted to create a hub where the existing residents of the Bronx and the transplants coming here have a place to become real neighbors," says Santos. "What better place to do that over literature and a glass of wine?"
