One of the most popular Christmas attractions in Brooklyn is just getting started for the season -but this year, things may be a little different.

The Dyker Heights Christmas lights is an annual tradition that draws tons of attention. It is known not just in the city, but across the tri-state area.

The lights attract many tourists. In the past, all of that attention has come with unwelcome consequences.

One major concern has been for street vendors who set up shop in the area. Residents say tour buses would drive down the narrow streets and that some people would show up past midnight and disturb the community.

This year, one huge change is street vendors aren't allowed in some parts of the neighborhood. This is part of a law introduced by Councilmember Justin Brannan prohibiting the sale of food and merchandise between 81st and 86th streets and 10th and 13th avenues - which are considered the prime viewing areas.

The ban on vending goes into effect Nov. 29 through Dec. 31.

Residents are asking visitors to come and enjoy the lights, but to be respectful of the neighborhood.
