Thousands gathered in Central Park for the We Love NYC: Homecoming Concert, but it was halted midway through around 8 p.m. due to lightning.
The concert came to a stop during Barry Manilow's performance of Copacabana. The NYPD asked all people in attendance to find the nearest exit.
Residents took their seats on Central Park’s Great Lawn Saturday afternoon for the all-star line up to grace the stage. Performances included Jennifer Hudson, Earth, Wind and Fire, and more. Proof of vaccination was checked at entry.
The concert marked the end of NYC Homecoming Week, a citywide celebration meant to support local businesses and organizations as they recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
