Yes, Allen. That's right. We're seeing a major improvement from earlier with these plowed roads. I mean, you can get through today, but obviously, as you can see, it's still pretty white out here. That means it's still a lot, a lot of snow. So if I was you guys, I would still just stay clear of the road because there are still some of these areas that are still very slippery. I mean, some areas are better than others. And as you can see, there are still some parts, especially on the sidewalks. People haven't come out just yet and start shoveling the sidewalks. So if you're out here driving, I think you should be in pretty good shape to, you know, be on the roads as long as you're moving slowly and taking your time out. But again, as you're walking, you guys, you want to be making sure that you're being careful because a lot of these roads just, I mean, a lot of the sidewalks still just aren't all the way shoveled and clear yet. There are still, as I said, slippery roads. It's a lot of slush out here, but you're just going to be at a lot of messiness. That's all I can really say, Alan right now. Um So if you guys are out here today, just make sure you're going slow as always. If you're coming up on those side, on those stop signs and stop lights, you know, take a few steps back, stop a few steps back because you don't want to slide through. We are seeing from uh a little outside the city, this big snowfall all across the forest, but we want to see more of what it's looking like in your area here as well. We did see some people posting a central park. You can see the dogs just having a blast out in the snow out there, but there are still some other things to keep in mind. We're still monitoring power outages across the borough. We are keeping our eye on any cancellations and flight delays over 400 of cancellations at laguardia airport. No, just continues to come down across our borough. Yeah, we've been watching it out there. Lots of city agencies have already deployed resources across the five boroughs to keep New Yorkers safe. And for more on the city's response to all this, we are joined now by Mayor Eric Adams and sanitation commissioner Jessica Tisch. Thank you both for joining us this morning. Thank you. And I know you ladies have been on the air since 4 a.m. you know, so it's, it's different from when you came in, trust me. Uh we, we've seen the video outside. Yeah, we all do our part to track this and every storm is so different too, you know, with the different accumulation how it's coming down. So what is the plan of tackling this one? That is such a great point. Uh Each storm has its own fingerprint or DNA strand and you have to approach it differently. And that is why uh having Commissioner Tish and her team, uh they are just professionals on how you use technology to analyze and make sure you get plow and but also the layers to doing this putting down of the salt. Um two inches before you plow. And um really encouraging New Yorkers to participate by staying off the road and all of those plans are executed uh, seamlessly and that's happening. Commissioner too. It sure is. Uh, we've had thousands of sanitation workers out there all night. Uh This has been largely a salt spreading operation so far as the mayor said, we can't plow until we get two inches of snow. We expect in some parts of the city to hit that threshold. Maybe 10:11 a.m. We may be able to break the plows out. But until then we've hit every street, every bike lane, every highway in the city and we're going to keep making passes to make sure that the roads are as safe as possible. Yes, we know the crews are working hard out there and mayor, this question is for you and a lot of people are reminiscing about the old school, traditional snow. Some parents are frustrated but you talked about this yesterday. What was the reason for doing remote learning and not just, you know, closing schools in general. Well, one is the number 100 and 80. We're required by law to, to have 100 and 80 schools days by law. The second is many people forgot that after COVID, we had severe learning laws in reading and math in particular and we have to catch up. The chancellor has done an amazing job. We're outpacing of the state in reading and math. Uh but our Children need as much instruction as possible and we have this tool called remote learning. Let's use it. It is going to get better and better each iteration of it. And it was a smart decision by the chancellor. We don't close schools for no reason at all. We don't do remote learning for no reason at all. We're using the tools that are available to us all and real quick because we don't have much time the storm. It's not done. We're in the middle of it. Uh What do you have, say to anyone that does have to get out there? Well, use public transportation is the best way when you keep the roadways clear. We allow the department of sanitation commissioner Tish and her team to do their job and they do it so well, we get the snow off the streets and then we can go remove the garbage because we both hate rats and we wanna make sure we get the garbage off our streets. The snow continues to fall throughout our city. It's time to check in on how the cleanup is going on out there. Yeah, Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson joining us right now, live this morning. Borough President Gibson. Thanks so much for taking some time on. What's a busy morning? For sure. We wanna get right into it and ask you if you've heard of any trouble spots that people maybe need to know about a alo along the borough this morning. Maybe they need to avoid with this storm. Good morning. Happy snowy Tuesday. Thank you so much. News 12. Uh, so far so good. We are tracking information on social media, our email channel as well as our un bondsman unit in borough operations. We have a few customers with power outages. Now in the Bronx, uh we are obviously paying particular attention to the main thoroughfares, uh, subway entrance and exit bus stops. We wanna make sure that any Bronx sites that have to travel use extreme precaution as it's still currently snowing. Uh, the snow plows are out. Uh I heard the mayor and Commissioner Tisch earlier today that said, you know, two inches is usually the minimum in which flowers come out. But we've already heard that plows are out on the streets. So it would be safe Bronx. And if there are any conditions out there down trees, dangerous unsafe streets, please call 311, call 911 for emergencies. And you can also track information on notify NYC as well as News 12 Bronx. We love the shout out. Thank you for that. And you know what is the coordinating from the B P's office during a snow event like this? So we usually coordinate closely with the mayor's office and obviously the governor as well. Uh emergency services. Nice. Um uh We work with Ds Ny and all of our city agencies. We uh extend in uh information as well to our local elected officials so that if they have any troublesome areas in their districts, they do reach out to us as well. Our borough operates team is on call so we get notified of any dangerous conditions from city agencies, whether it's Fdnydob Nyom sanitation dot uh But I'm also out there as well. I'm out in the streets as best I can being safe doing it uh as well as people reaching out to myself directly my team. Um but we do coordinate very closely with City Hall, with the Adams Administration, with the CAU unit uh in inter gov affairs and get as much information as we can including Con Edison as well because we sometimes anticipate power outages and many of our highways like the cross Bronx, the Bronx River uh as well as other highways in our borough usually get uh flooded and backed up as well. Borough, President Gibson, we still have that special election happening in the borough. Today we do today is election day in the West Bronx. If you live in Claremont, Claremont Village concourse Highbridge, Mount Eden Morris Heights in the West Bronx. You have an opportunity to vote for New York State Assembly for the 77 district uh to replace and succeed uh former assembly member LaToya Joyner. The polls open at 6 a.m. and they are open until 9 p.m. tonight. This is your original polling site no longer early voting, which we just had for the past nine days. Thank you to the New York City Board of elections to the Bronx office. All of our poll workers ad monitors interpreters and poll workers that are at all of our polling sites.
