Representatives from the Town of Oyster Bay Department of Public Works say salt and sand operations started at 2 a.m. on Thursday. They anticipate that it will take approximately four hours to cover the entire township.
The DPW says an inch to an inch and a half of snow can be seen in the center of Long Island, especially between Hempstead and Jericho turnpikes.
The department also says it is not a plowing operation. Salt and sand are being used to treat the roads.
Drivers tell News 12 they are being extra careful on the roads. Carly Bondar, of Syosset, said, ” I just definitely drive a little bit slower and very cautious; you never know who’s around you. I am a little more cautious than normal.”
