Traffic congestion causing frustration for drivers in Pelham Parkway
Having the green light but no place to go? That's the story for drivers on Eastchester Road.
The usual rush hour traffic has been exacerbated by a number of factors.
Drivers say it can take up to 30 minutes to travel from Eastchester Road at Waters Place to the opposite intersection at Pelham Parkway. The road is home to a charter school, the 49th Precinct and Jacobi Hospital, which already makes it a heavily trafficked area.
Adding to the congestion is a construction project on the Eastchester Road Bridge.
During construction, traffic is reduced to one lane in both directions near Basset Avenue. The construction is for the Penn Access project and is expected to last four months.
The road is home to a charter school, the 49th Precinct and Jacobi Hospital, which already makes it a heavily trafficked area.

"All New Yorkers deserve to feel safe while walking, biking, crossing, and just generally traveling on their local streets. Eastchester Road is a Vision Zero Priority Corridor, and we will continue to explore future upgrades that build on our existing efforts to enhance safety at this intersection," said the Department of Transportation.
The DOT installed a standard bicycle lane along Eastchester Road at Pelham Parkway North in an effort to make better connections to the Bronx River Greenway and Bronx Park.
The DOT also installed a speed hump and turn calming at Eastchester Road and Pelham Parkway South, which helps slow and control turns to reduce traffic deaths and serious injuries.
