Community leaders, advocates and officials held a vigil at Bennett Park in Manhattan Sunday for the victims of attacks in Israel.

The vigil in Washington Heights was held by Rep. Adriano Espaillat in collaboration with Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine, the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York and the American Jewish Committee.

"It feels really important [that] we come together, that we announce uniquely that we denounce the slaughter of children and seniors, the kidnapping of Holocaust survivors that we have seen," Levine said.

In a statement, Gov. Kathy Hochul called the attacks horrific.

“Earlier today I spoke on the phone with Israeli President Isaac Herzog to reiterate New York's unwavering support for Israel, to offer our condolences for the hundreds of lives lost in these horrific terrorist attacks, and to discuss the safety of New Yorkers who are currently in Israel,” Hochul said.

The vigil was one of many held across the city as New Yorkers responded to the attacks in Israel.
