A water main break flooded multiple homes on E 194th Street and Mayflower Avenue.

One resident told News 12 he heard what sounded like a shower in his basement, though he does not have a shower.

He went downstairs to find that water flooded several feet in his basement, damaging all his belongings.

"I had all my summer stuff in my storage room, so all my ACs and clothes and decorations for Halloween are all floating right now," said Richard Santiago, a homeowner on Mayflower Avenue.

Santiago says his basement and front porch were completely flooded.

Firefighters and members from NYC Environmental Protection are currently on scene assessing the damage.

The Department of Environmental Protection told News 12 it shut off water to 25 homes while crews work to find the source of the leak. A spokesperson said a temporary water fountain is in place, so residents can access drinking water, as repairs are ongoing.
