With names like “Caribbean Delight” and “Black Beauty,” Fresh Remedy Health and Juice Bar is trying to serve a community lined with fast food restaurants a block away in Crown Heights.
Queen dreamed of opening a juice bar to fuse her background as a fitness trainer and nutritionist.
“I wanted to kind of put it out there that you can get nutrients and vitamins from food, you don’t have to necessarily buy it in capsule form,” says Queen.
She partnered with Kevin to open the Rogers Avenue shop a little over a year ago. During the pandemic, new clients started coming in focused on immunity boosting.
"It was quite interesting to see people come in and start to consider their health a little bit more. A lot of ginger shots and wheatgrass shots were being sold,” says Queen.
Some patrons like that there's no hidden ingredients.
“It's important that I get organic food that’s truly like organic, so I come here simply for the nutrients,” says customer Candy Carter.
The menu includes smoothies infused with herbs. One of the most popular is the “Soursop it to Me.”
“If you know anything about Jamaican or Guyanese or anything like that, you're going to know that we drink that a lot. It's really good for you,” says Kevin.
During the pandemic, many third-party apps waived fees for Black-owned businesses starting in June, which Queen and Kevin say gave the company a boost.
Staff is looking forward to growing this shop and potentially opening more locations in the future.
