Secretary of State Marco Rubio gave a glimpse into what comes next regarding the U.S. involvement Venezuela – hours after airstrikes led to the capture of the country’s president Nicolás Maduro and his wife.
“What's going to happen here is that we have a quarantine on their oil. That means their economy will not be able to move forward until the conditions that are in the national interest of the United States and the interests of the Venezuelan people are met, and that's what we intend to do,” he said on This Week with George Stephanopoulos.
At a news conference in The Bronx, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani was questioned about Maduro’s arrest and upcoming court appearance in Brooklyn on Monday.
“This is a federal action on a federal timeline and I owe it to New Yorkers to deliver for them across the five boroughs and also to be honest and straightforward about my own thoughts on this,” he said.
After Maduro’s arrest, Venezuela has recognized Vice President Delcy Rodriguez as their acting leader.
