A Brooklyn nonprofit is hoping to make life easier for the transgender community with an annual wig and clothing drive full of donated items.

Janice Rodriguez lives her life proudly as a trans woman, but it has taken a long time for her to get there.

For more than a decade, Rodriguez did sex work and struggled with substance abuse.

"I always felt that my family didn't accept me, you know, through certain actions that they did," she said.

The Brownsville resident got in touch with Brooklyn GHOST Project, which stands for Guiding and Helping Others Through Transition.

The organization held its annual wig and clothing drive in Williamsburg Wednesday on the Transgender Day of Visibility.

Anyone who comes to this event can shop until they drop. All of the items have to go.

The nonprofit also helps clients with counseling to make their journeys easier.

Rodriguez hopes to turn her painful experiences into triumph.

"I feel like I have a calling to help other people because I've been through to so much in my life," she said.
