Yankees honor 5 NYC students in LGBTQ community
Some of the biggest names in baseball came together at one of New York's historic landmarks to honor local students in the LGBTQ community.
Students representing each borough received a $10,000 scholarship at the Stonewall Inn.
The New York Yankees handed out the prizes in the inaugural year of the scholarship, with Yankees President Randy Levine and General Manager Brian Cashman in attendance.
The initiative celebrates the achievements of graduating seniors who have shown academic excellence, a commitment to equality and impactful support for the LGBTQ community.
The five students will also be honored at Yankee Stadium June 25 when they will throw out the first pitch.
