A Valentine's Day card-making event was held for children and families across the Bronx.
The Atrium at the historic Bartow-Pell Mansion was filled with kids and parents on Saturday making Valentine's Day cards for loved ones.
The 19th century estate has been home to the event for five years and provides a historic setting in Pelham Bay to bring families together for some arts and crafts. Visitors can also wander through the historic estate that dates back to the 1800s.
With lots of art supplies, from doilies to candy hearts, it wasn't just the kids who got in on the fun. One Manhattan couple said they wanted to try a new way of celebrating the holiday together. They say it was extraordinary to visit the property instead of booking a standard restaurant reservation.
Bartow-Pell staff and parents say the Valentine's Day event is important for their community, while others like elementary school art teacher Lorraine Nicoletti said it's just a nice activity for the weekend.
"This is so easy and calming and relaxing," Nicoletti said.
Staff say they will continue planning family events for holidays throughout the year with an Easter egg hunt next on deck.
