A group of New Yorkers attempted to break a world record for planting trees in the Bronx Wednesday.
The goal was to plant 40 trees within an hour, but the group was only able to place 21.
NY Restoration Project, TD Bank and Sustainable Forestry Initiative teamed up with volunteers for the effort.
Deborah Marton, executive director of NY Restoration Project, says the Bronx has historically been environmentally neglected.
"We know now from the best science that we have that trees are good for people in millions of ways, so making sure that our city has a healthier urban forest is critically important," Marton says.
Although they failed to break the 40-tree record, Marton says other groups are pushing to plant a million trees citywide by fall.
