The street vendor who survived a brutal beating outside his stand more than a year ago has returned to work in the very same spot.

Souleymane Porgo was all smiles Thursday when News 12 The Bronx caught up with him.

"Six people hit me," he says. "A million people love me. Who's better?"

The six he is referring to are the men who attacked him and left him in a coma over a purse he was selling at the corner of 149th Street and Third Avenue last May. 

All of them faced gang assault charges.

They fractured his skull, and doctors told him he had only a 30 percent chance of surviving the trauma.

If he did survive, the doctors said at the time, he'd probably have trouble walking and talking.

But he's made an impressive recovery. Porgo, 49, walks 16 blocks to and from work every day, he says, and he feels healthy. He goes to speech and physical therapy twice a week and gives credit to the staff at Lincoln Hospital.

"I'm good," he says. "I'm better than before."

But now he only sells socks and underwear — no more purses. And he ends his day early out of safety concerns.
