Several families rushed out of their homes in the middle of the night as flames raged through the building next door.

Officials say the two-alarm fire broke out at around 1:40 a.m. inside 1825 Anthony Ave., which is vacant and up for sale.

All of the tenants in the neighboring building were able to get out safely, but their apartments suffered water damage. Some firefighters also suffered minor injuries.

Residents were allowed back in to their apartments at around 5 a.m., but only to retrieve their belongings.

The Red Cross is helping affected residents with temporary housing. The owner of the home where the tenants live told News 12 The Bronx that the second and third floors suffered the most damage. Repairs will take at least one month. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
