Two Brooklyn women made a donation to Brookdale Medical Center in an effort to help COVID-19 patients be with their families in the final moments of their life.
Stephanie LeBlanc-Godfrey and Shelley Worrell teamed up to bring iPads to Brookdale Medical Center.
"Patients are worried about their families, they feel alone, and then family members are worried about their loved ones, they can’t visit them, sometimes they can’t communicate with them; so this donation really breaks down that barrier,” says Tracy Dowlat, a nurse at Brookdale.
LeBlanc-Godfrey and Worrell each heard heart wrenching stories of people that died all alone and knew they had to do something to help.
"Someone made a comment on our Little Caribbean NYC page that her uncle died that way, and unfortunately none of her family members were able to be with him as he took his last breath,” says Worrell.

Using GoFundMe, the duo met its goal within a week allowing them to buy 10 tablets, but then Kings Plaza stepped in to help.
"They got back to us and said they would match or at least meet half of our goal, and so they had 10 iPads shipped to the hospital directly,” says Worrell.
The two say they have no immediate plans to extend this project, but are always looking for ways to give back to the community.
