The New York City Planning Commission held a public hearing today on the future of Madison Square Garden's audience capacity.

The permit issued in 1963 that allowed the arena to hold events with more than 2,500 people expires next month. The City Council is expected to decide this summer whether or not to extend that agreement, which MSG wants to be made permanent.

This comes just days after a report backed by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority came out saying MSG is no longer "compatible" with Penn Station. The report cited safety and efficiency concerns.
