Residents prep for another round of snow, icy sidewalks

With the potential for more snow on the way, some neighborhoods in the Bronx are still dealing with the mess left behind by this past weekend storm.

"You can see it's very hard, especially trying to get on the bus, and if you can't see the ice, it's the worst," said Mary who was waiting for the bus.
The street is primarily residential, with a bus stop for the Bx18. Commuters were navigating snow piles that have since turned to ice.
"I fell the other day, I have a bruise on my knee, and I have a knee replacement, so we don't want any more snow," said Yhaira, who said she fell while walking to the bus stop.
Property owners are responsible for maintaining sidewalks during snowstorms. Deepening on what time the snow falls, they have a certain amount of time to clear the snow or ice or could be at risk of being ticketed by the Department of Sanitation.
If the snow stops falling between:
• 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., you must clear sidewalks within 4 hours
• 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., you must clear sidewalks within 14 hours
• 9 p.m. and 7 a.m., you must clear sidewalks by 11 a.m.
Report snow or ice on sidewalks to 311 if they are not cleared within the allotted time.
