Uniondale man arrested for trying to lure 11-year-old into nearby home

A Uniondale man has been arrested for trying to kidnap a child in Nassau County.

Nassau police say an 11-year-old boy was walking on the sidewalk near Chester Street and Front Street in Uniondale on Monday afternoon, when he was approached by an unknown male.

The man, Nelson Acevedo, 51, offered the victim money to try to lure him to a nearby home, according to police.

The boy refused and tried to walk away when Acevedo forcibly grabbed his wrist, trying to prevent him from escaping.

Police tell News 12 he was able to pull his arm and get away from the man unharmed.

Acevedo was located on Wednesday around 1 p.m. and was placed under arrest for the incident.

He is charged with attempted kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment and endangering the welfare of a child.
