A large-scale search is underway after a teenager went missing in the waters in Rockaway Beach on Tuesday.
Emergency responders flocked to Beach 73rd Street and Shore Front Parkway after receiving a 911 call for a person missing in the water just after 3:30 p.m.
Tuesday marked the second day when temperatures reached over 90 degrees. Beaches remain closed until they open for the season on Saturday, kicking off Memorial Day weekend.
Lifeguards are not on duty while beaches are closed.
The FDNY says its rescue swimmers, drones and Marine units combed the waters for just over an hour and did not locate the person.
The NYPD's aviation and SCUBA teams took over the search just before 5 p.m., according to police.
